Description
I won a place on the UK Space Agency Accelerator Program because of my innovation in concentrated, waterless personal care products, for example our Caffeine & Rosemary Shampoo Powder. I was mentored by leading space industry experts, focusing on the hygiene challenges of living in zero gravity for long periods. Surprisingly, the most common medical issue in space flight is skin complications that develop as a result of the harsh physical toll zero gravity takes, water-use restrictions and reduced skin barrier function. My UKSA program research enabled me to identify a proprietary combination of natural ingredients that addresses the skin issues, and this led to the formulation of Dry Patches” – Melissa Kimbell
Key Benefits
1) High in Ceramides, which act like a barrier to reduce dryness and irritation
2) High in Palmitic and Oleic acids, which soften the skin and helps it retain moisture
3) Anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and anti-fungal, which helps sooth uncomfortable dry patches and flare-ups
4) Rejuvenates dry, scaly skin and provides mild relief of itchiness
5) Gentle and hydrating formula that can be applied on the body and face (sparingly) as often as needed
Key Ingredients
Ceramides
Ceramides are a special type of lipids (fat molecules) that are naturally present in your skin cells. In healthy, youthful skin, Ceramides make up 30% – 40% of the outer skin layer (epidermis). Ceramides are important for retaining your skin’s moisture and barrier function. When your skin’s barrier function is disrupted, your skin will feel dry, inflamed, and be at risk for inflammatory skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis and more. The good news is that you can boost your skin’s outer layer by supplementing your skincare with oils naturally high in Ceramides. We use organic Sunflower seed oil (68% Ceramide content) and gluten-free Wheatgerm oil (55% Ceramide content) in Dry Patches for this exact reason.
Organic Shea Butter
Shea Butter is renowned for its skin moisturising and protective properties. It has been widely used for centuries to help heal burns, sores, dermatitis, psoriasis, dandruff, and much more. Shea Butter is very high in Palmitic and Oleic Acids, which are essential fatty acids that help soften, smooth and replenish dry skin. It also contains antioxidants (Vitamins A, E and F), which may help protect your skin from environmental and free-radical damage. This luxurious butter is known for leaving a silky-soft, making it perfect for dry patches, eczema, etc.
The Sustainable story of our Shea Butter is another of its best assets, and we are proud to support this initiative. Our organic fairtrade Shea Butter has been hand-crafted by local women of the Sub-Saharan Savannah-Sahel for decades, providing women with a secured income for their family. After harvest, the local women will negotiate their price before selling their product on to Europe for refining. This fairtrade Shea Butter trade makes a significant and positive impact within their families and on their wider community, supporting new and better infrastructures for a higher quality of life.
Organic Frankincense Resin Oil
We formulate with the purest frankincense on the planet: certified organic and wild-harvested in a sustainable way. Used for centuries for both its spiritual and medicinal properties, Frankincense is used in traditional medicine for its anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic effects. Studies have shown that Frankincense, specifically Boswellia Carterii (which is what we use), is active against bacterial infections caused by E. coli and some strains of Staphylococcus aureus, as well as having significant activity against yeast overgrowth (1, 2). Frankincense is one of the secret weapons in Dry Patches because of its ability to fend off unwanted bacteria and yeast, while reducing inflammation and soothing aches and pains.

Stearic Acid
Stearic acid is a saturated, long-chain fatty acid that is found naturally in various animal and plant fats. Ours is naturally derived from coconuts, making it a wonderful vegan addition to our formula. Stearic Acid is an emollient that nourishes your skin and protects it from moisture-loss, helping shore up your skin’s protective barrier even more.
Organic Coconut Oil
Coconut oil has mild antipruritic, antiseptic and keratolytic properties. It is widely recommended for the treatment of scaly skin disorders of such as psoriasis, dry patches, eczema, dermatitis and dandruff.
Antipruritic = Relieves Itching
Keratolytic = Breaks Down Skin Plaques
Antiseptic = Prevents Infection
